Find out how reproductive rights are under attack

One Month Into Trump’s Presidency, the Attack on Reproductive Rights Has Already Begun

In just a month since President Trump’s return to office, we’ve witnessed a series of aggressive actions aimed at dismantling reproductive rights both in the US and globally. These developments underscore the critical need for immediate and unified resistance.

Key Facts & Recent Developments

The Global Gag Rule Is Back and Expanded

President Trump has reinstated and broadened the “Global Gag Rule,” a policy that prohibits international NGOs receiving US funding from providing or even discussing abortion services. This move has led to significant cuts in reproductive health funding worldwide, jeopardizing essential services for millions.

Censorship of Reproductive Health Resources

The administration has taken down critical reproductive health websites, and initiated the removal of critical health information from official websites, including the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This deliberate censorship restricts access to vital data on contraception, abortion, and maternal health, hindering individuals’ ability to make informed decisions. Thanks to those fighting back, a judge ruled against these orders, and some webpages are being restored.

Escalating Funding of Anti-Abortion Groups

Anti-choice organisations are receiving unprecedented levels of funding across the world, enabling them to expand their influence and operations. In the previous parliament, there were numerous attempts to introduce restrictive abortion measures, reflecting the growing clout of these well-resourced groups.

Fuelling Anti-Abortion Rhetoric

At the Munich Security Conference on February 14th 2025, the Vice President of the United States of America, JD Vance criticised the UK’s safe access zones, spreading misinformation and fuelling anti-abortion rhetoric.

The UK’s Abortion Law Is Not Secure

While often perceived as progressive, the UK’s abortion laws are far from secure. Abortion remains a criminal offense under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, with exceptions provided by the Abortion Act 1967. This legal framework means that abortion is not a guaranteed right but a conditional allowance, leaving it vulnerable to legal challenges and political shifts.

Rising Prosecutions in the UK

Alarmingly, there has been an increase in prosecutions related to abortion in the UK. The number of women facing criminal investigation, prosecution and prison time under Great Britain’s cruel andoutdated abortion law has reached a record high, highlighting the precarious nature of abortion access and the potential for criminalisation under current laws.

The anti-choice movement is well-funded, highly coordinated, and expanding its reach globally. We must fight back with equal strength. Every donation, every voice, and every action counts.
