Our Inauguration Day Screening & Panel Discussion

On January 20, 2025, we brought together 130 passionate advocates, activists, and supporters at the Amnesty UK Human Rights Action Centre in London for a night of solidarity, action, and inspiration. This event marked the launch of our Fighting Back Together campaign – a bold commitment to protecting and advancing reproductive rights in the UK and beyond.

The evening began with a powerful screening of Zurawski v Texas, an award-winning documentary that exposes the devastating human cost of abortion bans and highlights the resilience of those fighting back. The film set the stage for a dynamic and urgent panel discussion featuring leading voices in reproductive rights:

Key Takeaways from the Panel:
  • Stella Creasy MP: Abortion is not legally secure in the UK—prosecutions are rising, and access is more vulnerable than people think.
  • Eszter Kismödi: The Global Gag Rule is cutting access to care worldwide—while 60 countries have liberalised abortion laws, barriers remain, and we must fight back.
  • Amy Flanagan: Zurawski v Texas tells the story of a fightback—resistance begins with one person and grows into a movement.
  • Dr. Sonia Adesara: US anti-choice groups are funding UK campaigns—this is a global battle, and we must recognise the influence they have on our own laws.
  • Chiara Capraro: Anti-choice actors are manipulating human rights language—education and advocacy are key to countering their strategies.

The funds we raised together are directly supporting two vital causes:

  • BPAS’s fight to protect, defend, and advance abortion rights in the UK
  • The Brigid Alliance’s work in the US, providing essential travel and logistical support for those forced to seek abortion care across state lines.

One month into Trump’s presidency, reproductive rights are already under attack. This event was just the beginning – now, it’s time to fight back together.
